From May 14 to 16, the 5th Guangdong International Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Expert Workshop and the Inauguration Ceremony of Guangdong Carbon Capture Test Platform (GCCT) were held in China Resources Power (Haifeng) Co., Ltd. (referred to as Haifeng Project), marking the official operation of CR Power’s Haifeng Carbon Capture Test Platform, Asia’s first carbon dioxide capture technology test platform based on ultra-supercritical coal-fired power generating unit. Fei Weiyang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Tsinghua University, Zou Guang, member of the Standing Committee of Shanwei Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor, Hou Yongjie, Vice President of CR Power, and Ma Li, General Manager of South China Region were present at the Inauguration Ceremony.
Professor Fei Weiyang shared his proposal to accelerate the development of advanced carbon dioxide capture and storage technologies through global cooperation to promote technical exchanges and enhance research in application.
Vice President Hou Yongjie extended his congratulations on the successful launch of this project and said that CR Power had been fulfilling their mission by undertaking the responsibilities, continuously adhering to green development, actively exploring environmentally-friendly low-carbon green energy technologies, and promoting carbon capture technology demonstration work, thus offering assistance to the selection of technological paths and innovative application research in related industries. He hoped that all parties could join hands and work together to take care of the green hills and clear waters as well as protect our common home, the Earth.
After the ceremony, the guests visited the installation site of CR Power’s Haifeng Carbon Capture Test Platform and the exhibition hall of Haifeng Project International Exchange Center to learn about the platform’s progress, production process, technical highlights and future operation plan. During the visit, domestic and foreign experts in carbon capture, utilization and storage also participated in the 5th Guangdong International CCUS Workshop, conducting discussion on the testing, development, application and sharing of international carbon capture technology.
As the supporting project for CR Power’s technological innovation and strategic direction as well as the carbon emission reduction demonstration project selected by Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, CR Power’s Haifeng Carbon Capture Test Platform has become one of the world top three medium-scale test bases for carbon capture technology together with National Carbon Capture Center in the US and Technology Center Mongstad in Norway. It has been actively applying for Provincial Engineering Laboratory and National Engineering Laboratory. The establishment of this platform will actively advance the research and testing of carbon capture technology, help realize the commercialized and large-scale application research of carbon capture technology, as well as introduce and push forward the application and industrialization research of carbon dioxide, thus to accelerate the demonstration of industries related to carbon dioxide.
